I think I might not have made clear what the article was about. The point of the article/research was to illustrate how scientists need to be careful about drawing simple conclusions from the data of fMRI, such as the conclusion that certain areas being lit on an fMRI means that that are of brain is functioning.

After getting a one year subscription to WIRED I no longer bother to open the issue when it arrives.
